General
- What is The Cooling Experts?
- We are a homeowner-focused platform for quality HVAC results. We provide DIY education when safe tasks are on you, and we help match you with contractors vetted through our system when you need a licensed professional.
- Do you only book your own technicians?
- Our focus is lead generation and matching. We help homeowners get quality outcomes — DIY guidance and connections to contractors vetted through our process — not a random contractor lottery.
- What areas do you cover?
- We focus on residential homeowners across Hillsborough and Pinellas County — from Plant City (strawberries) to the sugar sand beaches (seashells), including Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and surrounding communities.
- What standards guide your advice?
- Clarity, integrity, respect, public standards (ACCA, AHRI, ENERGY STAR, EPA), and trusted contractor matching. Quality results over pressure sales.
DIY
- What can I safely do myself?
- Common safe DIY includes changing filters on schedule, keeping the outdoor unit clear of debris and vegetation, and keeping vents unblocked. Refrigerant, electrical diagnosis, and sealed-system work require EPA Section 608 certified technicians — that is not DIY.
- How do your DIY guides help?
- Our blog and resources pages explain manufacturer and governing-body guidance (ACCA, AHRI, ENERGY STAR, EPA) in plain language so your DIY efforts improve comfort and efficiency instead of causing damage.
Contractors
- What does “vetted through our system” mean?
- When you request help, we use our process to connect you with contractors aligned to quality expectations — licensed work, clear communication, and standards-aware practices (for example Manual J thinking and AHRI matched systems on replacements). Ask us what checks apply to your request.
- How do I get matched with a contractor?
- Call or text (727) 594-9088, use the Get matched / book flow on the site, or submit project details on the estimate form. Tell us your city or ZIP, the problem, and whether you prefer DIY guidance or a pro visit.
Standards
- What is an AHRI matched system?
- AHRI certifies performance of many outdoor/indoor combinations. For split systems, efficiency claims apply to matched pairs. Ask for an AHRI Reference Number and verify it at ahridirectory.org when comparing replacement quotes.
- What are SEER2 and HSPF2?
- As of 2023, DOE rates residential central AC and heat pumps using SEER2 and HSPF2 under an updated test procedure. Compare quotes using the same rating family — older SEER labels are not 1:1 with SEER2.
Fix
- Can you fix every brand?
- Pros we match can work on most home brands. Call (727) 594-9088 and we’ll help you next steps.
- How fast can someone come?
- It depends on the day. Call (727) 594-9088 and we’ll help you get a helper as soon as we can.
Check-Up
- How often should I care for my AC?
- Change thin filters often (many homes: every month in heavy use). A pro check-up about once a year is a smart plan for many homes.
New AC
- Do you give free estimates?
- We can help you request an estimate through a vetted pro. Call (727) 594-9088.
Ducts
- Why do ducts matter in Florida?
- Lots of homes put ducts in hot attics. Leaks dump cold air where you don’t live — and rooms feel sticky or uneven.
Heat
- Do you help with heat pumps?
- Yes — most Tampa Bay homes use heat pumps for cool and warm. We share easy tips and pro matching.
Clean Air
- Is cleaner air the same as a new AC?
- No. Cleaner air tools and clean filters help your current system. Sometimes that’s enough!
Mini-Splits
- Can mini-splits cool a whole house?
- Sometimes with many indoor heads. It depends on the home. A pro can walk through real options.
