Most Tampa Bay homes cool and heat with a heat pump. Here’s how to keep heating mode ready when cold fronts arrive.
One system, two jobs
Heat pumps reverse for heat. If cooling works but heating doesn’t, you still need service—not necessarily a separate furnace. Major brands including Carrier, Trane, and Lennox sell residential heat pump lines designed for year-round comfort.
Efficiency ratings changed in 2023
The U.S. Department of Energy updated test procedures so new equipment is rated in SEER2 (cooling) and HSPF2 (heating). When comparing quotes, make sure ratings use the same SEER2/HSPF2 language and that outdoor and indoor units are an AHRI-matched pair.
