Oversized air conditioners short-cycle and leave homes sticky. ACCA Manual J sizing plus equipment that can run longer at lower speed (including advanced Carrier, Lennox, and Trane lines) supports better moisture control.
Cooling removes moisture when it runs long enough
Sensible cooling lowers temperature; latent cooling removes moisture at the evaporator coil. Systems that satisfy the thermostat in a few short bursts may not run long enough to dry the air—especially in Pinellas and Hillsborough humidity.
Standards and manufacturer design intent
ACCA Manual J establishes the load so equipment is not oversized by rule of thumb. Many higher-tier Carrier, Lennox, and Trane systems use multi-stage or variable-speed operation that can match part-load conditions—still only if the system is selected and installed correctly and airflow is adequate (Manual S and Manual D).
